HOW
CAN YOU APPLY THE ACRYLIC STONES?
GLUE
You can try a lot of different glues to bond acrylic stones but you cannot use
any containing isocyanate (the instant adhesives), or acetone because the strong
solvents damage the backinng of the stone.
To Fabric and Textile
There are several brands of glue that are specifically formulated for bonding
rhinestones to fabric. Some of the more common brand names are Beacon Gem-Tac,
E6000, Victory 1991, and Aleene's Jewel-It. Other fabric glues also work.
To Metal
Epoxy or Hot Melt
To certain Plastics
Acrylic based clear cement or craft glue
To Glass
Hot Melt or silicone
SEW-ON
Some acrylic stones have holes for stictching or threading. To see sew-ons in
the store, click
here.
Sew-on metal settings is another option, allowing you to sew on stones that
do not have holes in them.
METAL SETTINGS
Settings have prongs that penetrate fabric and are then bent, to hold the stones
in place on the garment.
While it is possible to attach these by hand, they are most often attached by
using a setting device.
There are
a two basic types of settings, Tiffany and Rim.
1. Tiffany settings enter from the back of the fabric and crimps over the top
of the stone.
2. Rim settings enter from the front of the fabric, putting a metal rim around
the rhinestones, and crimps on the backside of the fabric.

WASHING
INFORMATION
WASHING METHODS
FOR THE ACRYLIC STONES THEMSELVES
The rhinestones can be washed by hand
The rhinestones can be washed by machine but we recommend turning the garment
inside out, or placing it in a bag, and running on gentle cycle to reduce the
chance of scratching, chipping, or grabbing off, by the action in the machine.
Cold or warm water recommended.
The rhinestones are not recommended to be dry-cleaned. They might be able to
resist the chemicals a little bit, but the real danger is in the pressing after
cleaning. The indiscrimanting hot iron, will melt the rhinestones.
Machine dryer or any other sources of heat should be avoided.
WASHING METHODS FOR THE ACRYLIC STONES ATTACHED WITH METAL SETTINGS
same as above
WASHING METHODS FOR THE ACRYLIC STONES ATTACHED WITH GLUE
This will depend on the glue used, and how it has been employed.
If successfully employed then -
The glued rhinestones can be washed by hand
The glued rhinestones can be washed by machine but we recommend turning the
garment inside out, or placing it in a bag, running on gentle cycle, to reduce
the chance of scratching, chipping, or grabbing off of the stones, by the action
of the machine. No hot water.
Machine dryer or any other sources of heat should be avoided.
How
can I set rhinestone rivets?
You can set rhinestone
rhinestone rivets using the GU50
attaching machine, equipped with our standard rivet
attaching dies.
There are presently 6 dies for 6mm to 12mm.
These dies should also work for Swarovski rivets but you will have to perform
your own tests to determine the suitability.
To get an
idea of how this works you can also check this
video clip at youtube.com..
